Don't take out consolidate loans unless really necessary (can't think of a time when it would be a good idea really) Especially not secured. You have already paid interest on the debt, consolidation means more interest on top of that over a longer term. Also the chances are you will carry on over spending with your now clean credit cards and end up in the same position a year or so down the line. Look at other ways to reduce the debt, perhaps by calling payplan, CCCS or the CAB. Don't panic, help is out there!:A

Give Caol Vorderman a wedgie whenever you can.
Serious tip - get other half on board, it's so much easier with the both of you working towards the same goal. We see so many people struggling to pay off debt when OH just wants to spend spend spend. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Realise you will HAVE to change your lifestyle - I don't think anyone can keep their exact way of living whilst trying to pay off debts. On the positive side then most of us seem to start enjoying the MSE lifestyle after the first few weeks

Yep, don't consolidate - you never learn your lesson and you'll just end up in worse problems...
And don't shop in Tesco / Asda / Sainsburys - you can half your shopping bill by doing it in Netto / Aldi / Lidl.
