It isn't. It's merely one of the many disadvantages of these idiotic vehicles.Dan29 wrote:If pedestrian safely is your biggest concern
I'm sure you can think of many reasons, but one obvious one: driver training won't prevent children running out into the road, will it?why aren't you campaigning for better driver training rather than trotting out the same old cliche again and again?
The trouble with some cliches is that they are true. :rolleyes:Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

And all of those who don't own a car, would level that accusation at those of us who do .. irrespective of the car we drive.
Life is really not this simple

Not at all. Cars are over-used but they have a very important purpose and we can't do without them. Urban 4x4s don't. I agree that there are cars and cars though - as pointed out by dan29.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Because I tow a trailer.
And anyone who tows a trailer, be it a caravan, horse-box, burger-bar, jet-ski, or even a broken-down vehicle being recovered - would be irresponsible NOT to tow with a heavy 4 wheel drive.
My (diesel) 4x4 is a working vehicle not a status symbol. But I can't afford a second car for pleasure only, so when I go into the city it comes with me.

Then you're not a classic urban 4x4 owner.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I recently bought an excellent T-shirt from https://www.stopurban4x4s.org.uk which I often make a point of wearing when I am doing the school run, just to show the mums what I think!Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money0 -
I'm 20 and don't drive despite having been offered free driving lessons by my ex-employer (who wanted someone who could drive).
I've seen what cars do to people, and there's evidence of what cars do to the planet.
Want to know what cars do to people? I ride a bike, walk, and use public transport. This means I exceed the daily recommended amount of exercise without even trying.
This also means I feel fit and healthy, and generally good about myself.
As I'm 20 alot of my friends have got cars in the last few years.
It makes it really easy to get lazy, and before you know it you're not walking anywhere, and yeah, they put on weight, and whilst they thought they'd go out more once they had a car, they go out less because the more unfit you are the less energy you have (note the time btw, I get by on 4 hours sleep quite happily, not a claim many can make (and I've asked my doctor about it by the way, it's perfectly normal for someone with such the "heartrate of an athlete" (about 65) and a good diet (I don't bother with these "health foods" I just take junkfood as a treat instead of a given).
Lastly, with all the money I save on insurance, congestion charging, the car itself, petrol, road tax, MOT, oil-changes and general maintenance, etc I get to go out loads (and likely still have money left over).
Oh and btw, with the change, I've saved up enough to start my own company and so I don't work for that employer anymore!0
