  • We are on Orange and we connect through a Live Box. The key on the bottom is a WEP key which is what we use to connect our computers to the internet. It is this that is not working because we need it to be a WPA key. We have just been intoo our settings and it is now changed to WPA and a box that we can change but how do we know what to put, surely we can't just pick random letters and numbers.

That's the whole point of a security key. Any random combination of letters, numbers and characters between 8 and 63. The more random, the better. Make sure you copy it exactly to the Xbox as it is case sensitive.
  • ....surely we can't just pick random letters and numbers.

As max says....that's exactly what needs to be done. I had said this earlier but on re-reading the post, I could have perhaps clarified further.

Please come back and tell us this is working now

    Hello,

A friend of mine had the Orange Live Box and had problems connecting his PSP via it. he said the Orange Live Box was allowing both WEP and WPA at the same time and that this is a known configuration hassle.

The xbox must be automatically going for the more secure WPA option so you may need to get the WPA key from the router settings.

However I found a guide that said the below procedure worked using the WEP key printed on the bottom of the Orange Livebox:

    I would have posted a link but can't as I'm a new user :(

    1. first go to the 360 dashboard

    2. then go to network settings

    3. edit settings

    4. then scroll down twice to the wireless section and press "A"

    5. it should show your Orange Live box (i put mine right next to my livebox to get the best connection. select the live box by pressing "A"

    6. It will then ask you for the wpa code just put the WEP code in with no dashes or gaps lll one long number and IN CAPITALS. might not have to but it worked straight away for me! do not press done!!!

    7. before you press done press the button in ur livebox marked with a number 1.

    8. now press done

    9. test your connection and all should be fine.

If you follow Nivz help you should be ok, if you need anymore help let us know
  • Just to let you know we are all sorted now. Unfortunately the solution was none of the above mentioned advice but thank you all for your help and suggestions. We rang Orange and they told us to put in the WEP key press done then press the 1 button on Livebox (which my son had already tried!!) and hey presto it worked. Don't know if they did something from their end but I now have a happy son. Thanks again.
