Internet phone Unauthorised internet access

Back again, shamelessly asking for help. Cannot get any joy from Vodaphone or troubleshooting websites and I have been at this all morning!

I have a Nokia 5800 phone on contract to Vodaphone. In December I cancelled my internet sub as I was not using it. Strangely I got a bill with internet charges on it so I delved deaper. Since 3 November, my phone has been connecting to the internet at midnight every night!

this has resulted in over £20 of charges since 3 December! Vodaphone have refunded these charges but admit it is still happening and March`s bill will be the same. They say the only way to stop it happening is if they send the "wrong" settings to my phone that will stop internet access completely but will also stop me from being able to send picture messaging which is not ideal at all.

I know it is strange to own an internet phone and not want the internet but is really worrying me "what" it is connecting to!" besides it costing me nearly 50p a go:eek:

Any advise welcome.

Is it possibly the rss reader updating its feeds?

I used to have mine set up to update every hour, but having moved contract I have turned this facility off and only update now as and when I feel the need.

will certainly try that. How do I try that????? is the lesson here, do not have an internet phone unless you pay for unlimited internet access? :(

The lesson is make sure your phone cannot access the internet without you actually doing it.

My rss reader settings are in "messaging" but I don't have a Nokia.
I think they are just called "feeds" on your phone

  • I have password protected the WAP connection and removed all access points. Fingers crossed! If I try to go online now it asks for my password so that should do it.

Is it too stupid an idea to suggest that you turn it off when you go to bed and turn it on in the morning?

I use it as an alarm clock! Would be a bit silly to turn it off!

It's becoming a rather expensive alarm clock. I got one from Tesco some time ago for £1.50!

Sounds a bit daft but must be a crap phone. I have a nokia 6600 and you can switch it off and the alarm turns the phone on when it activates

Have you tried doing that, it probably works like that you may not know it

Set the alarm for 1-2 mins time, then turn off the phone. You may find it will switch on the phone and set off the alarm :)

my 4/5 year old sony ericsson phone will turn on for alarms (if the phone has previously been turned off) then once the alarm has gone off, it will switch back off.

    EDIT: Snap! Lil306
