I was only borrowing a fraction of the amount as well. I'm led to believe that almost all of the Buiding Societies are referring to National Hunters Limited.

I'm sure that there is something in the Data Protectioon Act regarding the sharing of information obtained by computer based decisions so thanks for that info,I will do som more work on that as a subject

Back to the original question but isn't a p60 enough evidence for a lender I have never been asked for anything more or heard of my company being contacted

Regrettably fraudsters can very easily obtain false P60s ,employee refs in fact anything you'd need to falsify income.that is why Lenders and other similar firms have had to increase their surveillance to counter the sophisticated scams.

The quality of colour printing on bog standard pc/homeprinters makesreprocudtion of excellent fakes makesit very difficult for the average person to spot the wrong un's.

You only have to read of identity theft cases in the press to appreciate how difficult it is and thats why these extra safeguardsare there.

There may be errors made,no one is perfect, but the number of "errors" is far outweighed by the number of people who conveniently forget to tell the truth when applying to borrow money.

I agree with everything you say. You should however be told at the outset that your application will be sent to National Hunters Linmited who will scruitnise it for fraud. They dont need to be kept secret, thats less of a deterrant

Your bank or building society should also tell you that your mortgage has been declined as a result of information received from National Hunters Limited so that you can fairly challenge it. What have they to hide. Its actually a Human Rights Issue

Box you will find in the terms of any lenders application process there will be reference to something along the line of - 'you(the client) agree to us making reference to any third party organisations we so wish in order to protect against fraud'. This statement or similar has been around for years.

Where some people are now comming unstuck is them giving (often innocently) different details to differing organisations over time. Classic case is the noob broker that tells the client not to worry, just put 'x' in the box, without making the client think about that nectar card application 2 years ago for example. Another hidden cost of using cowboy brokers.

I'm fully aware of the small print where you agree to them sharing information with third parties. What I find and found frustration is when you ask the bank and BS what third parties they have shared it with they wont tell you, not even an a Subject Access Request, more to follow on that once I get a ruling from the ICO.

You wouldnt be allowed to go to the police or take someone to court claimming you got the information from a "Third Party". These people have no legal status and they are not the law or above it

When I applied for a mortgage, the lender (RBS) was fine with just pay slips. When I applied for a First Direct current account, they contacted the HR department of my employer (for the sake of a £250 overdraft)...go figure?!

Guess it's different strokes for different folks- if everything on your application form is accurate, it shouldnt matter

It is however they will sometimes clarify its authenticity with HMRC, who are far better at spotting fraud than other special foces Hunters
