"The Chairman of Hunter is a woman from Nationwide Building Society. The Hunter Association is not a limited company so you can take her to court personally if you find something wrong with the data. Only when someone does so will this system become transparent to consumers."

    No sorry....
  • Question: If Hunters are owned by Exprian which they are, why when you write to Experian regarding your credit file do they not include info held by Hunter who are one of the same? Surely this is a Section 7 DPA breach?
  • I think the thread is moving away from the OP's original question and like the other reader can confirm that there has always been the option to check direct with the employer or IR.
This however is not done often unless there is something which may need clarifiying or looks unusual. For example self employed mobile hairdresser declaring income as 30K or P60 looking suspect. It is not in the Lenders interest to spend too much time getting into correspondence with either and often , if possible, will do a phone check.
Lending Admin centres are big warehouse operations and can receive anything up to 500 to 600 new applications each day so wherever possible paper is taken out of the system.

As far as Hunter is concerned this is an automated system. In 20 odd years I can only ever remember as an underwriter to having one referral from them where an applicant had made an application on the same property with another Lender which he had not declared. Also it isnt standard practice to divulge to anyone outside of the source of any referral be it CIFAS or Hunter.

Lenders reserve the right to make anysuch requests. Going for Tax / NI information is fairly uncommon, but if they have doubts......

For example someione saying they're an employed cleaner on £30k would trigger alarm bells, or someone saying thier work address is a residential property, or where in the past an applicant has applied for lets say a credit card stating they earn £15k, but hey presto when they want a mortgage it's all of a sudden £25k.
