Worried ..home visit by JC+

I am worried about a letter I received today saying there is some sort of query re my JSA entitlement and a Compliance Officer will be coming round to see me next week. They want to see bank statements but have not said how many. Are these the people who deal with benefit frauds?

I can't think what it can relate to as I am not working or hiding anything but the only thing I can think of is that a lump sum of money was paid into my bank account before Christmas by a relative to help me pay off some of my debts. Is it possible that my bank would have informed the JSA about this? but am I not right in thinking that you are allowed to have approx £6,500 before you are penalised anyway? I am very worried as all the money has been spent now on paying off debts as was intended and they might stop my JSA.

Please can anyone help me here?

Anything over £6,000 will affect your benefits. How much were you given by your relative? Were the debts priority debts?
    Gone ... or have I?

It was £4,000 and the debts were not priority ones as such as I have paid those off now.
  • Have you ever been self-employed?
  • Yes I was for a period of about 6 months up until a year ago. Why?

They are coming to mine today and I was told over the phone that it could be to do with my self-employment last year.

    When are they visiting you?

    Xmas Saver!
It could be someone has said that ur doing x,y,z, and even if your not they have to check into the matters.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, I can only put 2+2 together and assume the person was an ex-friend, but they rang up the DHSS saying I'd been doing this, got money, was abroad every month on holiday......... I wish....... but they have to check out all calls and hense statements etc will show ur money spending.

If the relative gave you 4k,did it take you over 8k savings?

Re this money, have you got a paper trail showing the money, was it a loan, was it a gift?

Can you show where it went, ie statements,

Just be honest and thats all you can do. x

  • Mine is on Wednesday. Do you know why they need to discuss the self-employment?

No it definitely didn't take me over £8k (I wish lol). No I haven't really got any proof of what it was for, it was just paid by personal cheque and was a gift to help me out with debts, most of which were paid by debit card over the phone so that would show up on the statements.
