You could get Jessops to try putting autofocus on single.

If you want image stabilisation the Nikon lenses with VR are a lot more expensive. Lens stabilisation is supposed to be better than in camera. Image stabilisation only becomes necessary in poor light or at longer focal lengths.

There is a Firmware release for the Sony Aseries.
It mentions Exposure and Autofocus somaybe the new firmware resolves the issue.

Before committing have a look at Panasonic FZ38 all the features of a DSLR fantastic Leica zoom lens and lots of features such as bracketing normally only found on much more expensive cameras.

What do you want to use the camera for, as this will determine whether you need image stabilisation or not. I have a Nikon camera and no VR lenses and the only time I wish I had it was when taking photos at longer focal lengths i.e. 200 –300mm.
