I second that about salad leaves, I grew cut and come again leaves last year which were far tastier than anything you can buy in the supermarket and I just used to go outside and harvest them just before I needed to use them. Didn't have to buy any lettuce at all last summer.

I sure do hope my seeds arrive today:)

    Definately.

What i do if have a tub on the go. Then about 6 weeks later sow another tub. Then when the first has all been eaten do a third.

When cabbage whites start though try to cover with netting as you dont want eggs in your salad!!!

They take literally no looking after at all and are fast growing so perfect if you have your children wanting to plant something.

If you order from T&M they have some trial price speedy mix of salad leaves for 99p (fre if you have any of the £5 off vouchers left over!)

Mine arrived today too. Is it wrong to get excited by a few packets of seeds? ;)

Can you tell I'm a total newbie to this grow your own adventure?:o

Think I might have to join in the veg growing newbies thread now instead of just reading all the stories and advice, as I'm sure to have loads of questions and it's good to know I'm not the only one embarking on a new challenge.

I have a £5 voucher and would like to buy some seeds from T & M but would like to keep the seeds for next year, do you think they would keep okay? If i do get some to store for next year, is there a way of storing them to prolong their viability? I would keep them in cool dry conditions but should i put them in a sealed tin for example?

    Thanks in advance folks.

Most seeds will keep fine. Parsnips seem to be an exception - but id certainly use your voucher and buy them.

I keep mine in a tin in a cool dark place.
  • Mine havent turned up yet. But at least I know they will save. I save lots of flower seeds in a tin in a dark cupboard with no probs, even when they go a little over expiry date.

in ideal storage it also explains what seeds need to store safely

Got mine too. The salad and carrots will be used - not sure about the others. I've still got beans left from last year and I don't use a lot of basil (tried it last year but managed to kill it off over the winter!).

Can't make my mind up about the courgette. Will it grow OK in a pot? Does it take up a lot of space?
