For a telephone bank, their number is decidedly hidden on their website.
    It isn't hidden - http://www.firstdirect.com/contact_us.shtml
  • What has disgusted me about this is the way I found out - on the radio this momorning. I still haven't heard from First Direct and so will be closing my account even though the charge won't affect me, this is due to their lack of communication

I suspect FD planned to stagger sending out the letters in order to manage call traffic at their customer service centres as people respond with comments/closure requests. However the media have picked up the story and run it meaning that people who haven't yet had their letters (including me) heard it first elsewhere - I saw it here yesterday and checked it out on their website.

  • The OP Mrs_Jangles deserves a pat on the back for the inside information she gave us 4 MONTHS AGO which Fist Direct (sic) have been catagorically denying until the announcement was made.

Can anybody else confirm this? Seems like a backward step to me. I was going to transfer to them but uncertainty has taken hold!

    Confirmed!

That number is an 0845 number.

It's cheaper or free depending on your tariff to use the international number:

I just called FD as I have been a customer for over a decade and would leave immediately if they made such a charge.

They told me there is nothing of the sort happening.

Where on Earth did you get this information?

    The barefaced liars - LOL

I WILL NEVER bank with them.. especially that belter of a lie.
  • One issue that seems to have been overlooked is the effect of well informed and high profile consumer journalists such as Martin.

No doubt FD charging will be raised as an issue either when he's next on the Jeremy Vine show or on a consumer TV show. He only has to keep to the facts (as always) and the general public can make their own decision.

Unfortunately we never find out how many FD customers are moving as a result of charging.
