  • hmm "press f2 as cpu fan has failed" sounds like a couple of laptops in my house its not an ibm is it ? .... my sons X32 does this all the time and my T43 has done it once neither cpu fan had failed it just needed cleaning out, on our ibm's at least its easy to get to the cpu fan as its under the keyboard a good brush out and blow out sorts the problem until it gets gunked up again.

It is most likely that the CPU is getting too hot, and then shutting down the whole to prevent further damage.

Did you ever vac it out as you said you would?
If you look inside, can you see the cpu fan spinning?

But it would't take a few days though if the fan has gone, either the fins on the heatsink are clogged up with dust or it is the PSU fan that is not working.
  • yes i have hoovered it out, did it again today in fact, didnt want to get toooo involved in cleaning tho,

i think, like the poster says, it probably shuts down as a precaution if it gets too hot,

another poster said i should make sure i have backed up, which i have, i will eventually be getting a new PC as this would cost too much to upgrade but i will work this into the ground first!!
in fact i have bought a laptop and i will be setting that up soon, with help from you guys, then if this suddenly and completely gives up the ghost at least i will still be able to get online..

Try and use a thin paintbrush to remove dust while holding vac near.
