just wondered why my computer shuts down from time to time, as some of you know i have got a problem with my cpu ( i cant get on my pc unless i press F2) because my cpu fan has failed??
anyway, out of curiousity i thought i would look at my ctl-alt-del task master and see what was going on and there are 50 'things' in the process menu- is that how many things are running in the background?
also my cpu usage ( under performances) is running between 5% and 15%- is that good or bad?
the rest of it- i haven't got a clue??
just wondered:o

50 processes doens't sound excessive. Most of them will be to do with the OS.
5-15% isn't good or bad it's just how busy the CPU is, i.e. not very. If you were doing some video encoding it would most likely jump to 99-100%. Again that isn't good or bad it just reflects how you're uisng the PC.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

so it's not a reason why it should suddenly shut down? and i haven't done any video encoding ( i dont even know what that means)0 -
because my cpu fan has failed??
you need to replace the cpu fan or you will cook your cpu and kill it permanetly
the reason its under performaning it is too hot! im suprised no one has told you this so far and if you keep running it the computer will die its that simple!0 -
Sorry, should have mentioned that. As basil says get the fan replaced ASAP as iyou will eventually destroy your CPU.
I haven't seen any other thread you have about this but should have said. It's my problem, it's my problem

I would check to see if your CPU fan has indeed failed or not, open your case and have a look.
If it is not working as Basils says you will kill your CPU and you should not be using your computer untill you have sorted it.0 -
to be honest it has been mentioned not to use the computer but when it comes on, and i use it and it doesn't go off or shut down for a few days- it is easy to forget that i have a problem!0

I'd thought it be a bit quicker shutting down than a few days if your CPU fan is not working.
Are you sure your CPU fan is not working?0 -
well more fool you then, i would suggest you run it and kill but just make sure you have backed up any important docs and photos because the amount people come on help i've lost this help i've lost that. when you know you have got an issue to me seems plane stupid!0

Wonders if the hosterlady means PSU fan?
If not then I can imagine the OP working the comp in the freezer if the comp keeps running for a few days without a CPU fan :rotfl:0
