Are TV competitions worth doing

As I havent been well recently I have entered loads of comps on telly but not by phoning up but on my PC. Is it really worth it? How do they select the winner - ??

Vent and warning as far as I'm concerned. TV competitions are something of a rip-off, GMTV appears to be the worst not that I watch it much. They'll ask a question something along the lines of "How many heads does a human being have, is it a)One b)Twenty c)Susan Boyle" and then charge £1 a go to enter. The prizes are usually quite decent to encourage viewers to start texting but if they get say 100,000 entries at a quid a pop for a prize of £25,000 then they're laughing.

The OP had the right idea of entering for free on-line but personally I wouldn't bother given the number of enteries they're likely to get. As far as I'm concerned these competitions are just another form of idiot tax.

These are national competitions which no doubt attract tens of thousands of entries and usually only have one prize on offer. The chance of winning is going to be pretty remote so personally I'd say this is a waste of time.

Most of the prizes on the 'I won' thread are things like t-shirts, DVDs, books, etc. You've got a much better chance of winning if you enter a competition with a large number of low value prizes than if you enter a competition on GMTV to win a luxury holiday in St. Lucia or £25,000 in cash. Plus most of the competitions on the competitions board don't cost £1 a go to enter.
