Do you have the restore disks that came with your computer? Also, do you need to recover any information from the hard drive (such as documents, photos, downloaded content that you paid for, etc)?

I might need to recover few stuffs but i can forget about it.

I have the recovery disk. I tried to repair it via recovery disk yesterday but cant. My question is if i used the recovery disk to get the initial software back, does that mean the HDD is ok?

    Cheers
  • If you can recover, then it may be ok - you should run a hard drive diagnostic program to be sure (more on that later).

When you say that you can't recover it, what happened?

It says i cant "repair". I am now worried that if i decided to lose the data maybe the HD may eventually not work.

I dont want to be a complete loser.
  • Is it a standard Windows boot disk or one provided by your manufacturer? Does it say why you can't repair?

You can use the Ultimate Boot CD to run a hard drive scan to determine if there is a hardware fault or not:
    http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
You will need to download an image and burn it to CD.

It appears i cant download it directly. Is there anyway around this? Cheers
  • You can download it from one of the mirrors on the download page, such as:
