First Direct - Different Banking

I was aprehensive about switching current accounts, I'd been with Natwest for 15 years...

The switch over has been smooth, and their phone service first class (no holding in queue, english operators friendly service...)

As a result of this I've changed my mortgage to them, life insurance and car insurance. (Getting £300 too for doing this and a 10% discount on my car 15% on my wifes.)

Because it's part of the HSBC group I can still do face to face banking too, but their internet site makes it easy to do things from your own arm chair.

I know banks get a bad press but I have to say I'm pleased I moved

I've been with first direct for years now having previously been with Nationwide, then HSBC - been very happy and probably wouldn't move even if offered a better rate elsewhere.

There number is 01132 766166 if you want to avoid using the 0846

Super thanks for that it was the only negative, (Natwest was an 0845 so accepted it).

First Direct is definitely the best bank that I use at the moment, and will stay with them after I've graduated.
I use 0113 2345678 (printed on the back of the card).

Scared to put a jinx on it..lol..but I've banked with them for over 6 years now, never encountered any problems with them at all - they're the best bank I've ever used.
The customer service team are excellent.
I know they don't pay interest on the current account, but I'm happy to compromise on that because a) it would be a miniscule amount for me anyway and b) they are good to bank with.
  • Another happy FD customer, been with them for about 5 years now. Good customer service and excellent internet banking. Also handy to be able to use HSBC branches when needed.
  • Been with them 15 years now, never had a reason to complain.

Don't they charge you £10 a month though? Unless you have a large wage paid in, something like over £25k a year?
If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 7555

You can also have another product with them to avoid the charge - like a savings account or a credit card. There's no condition on you actually having to have any money in the savings a/c or use the card!

I'm another very happy FD customer!

I think you need a balance of ar least £1500, or deposit at least £1500 per month. FD are seen by HSBC as 'Premium Banking', to try to justify this charge.
