Valentines gifts etiquette

I always buy gifts for my OH as stated just because they are men it does not mean they don't like gifts.
I do understand what some people say about Valentines day though, it is far too commercial but then again what inst these days!
We do, do Valentines day BUT we also do things throughout the year as well, I mean if you're only doing these nice things once a year then it's not good in my books.
Plus Valentines doesn't have to mean spending big money if you don't have it, there are plenty of nice cheap or free things you can do everyday for your OH.Everybody Wants To be Happy.......Nobody Wants Any pain......But You Can't Have a Rainbow........Without Any Rain !!

We do do gifts for each other but OH's birthday is Feb 17 so he gets presents for both!
It's just usually something he's said he wants - usually around Christmas but because his birthday is so close to Xmas I hold something back and give it to him for his birthday. This year he has a Leicester Tigers training shirt and a CD, and I've got him pyjamas and a phone for his birthday. Its rare that we give each other 'Valentine' type gifts - its usually something practical.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Valentines day is our wedding anniversary. Usually we would go away but have a 18 week old puppy so cant, so we are having a full weekend of niceness.
Saturday we are going for afternoon tea at a hotel famed for there afternoon teas then some nice shopping, then in the evening going out for a meal. Sunday we are having a spa day enjoying the pool etc..and DH is treating me to 3 hours of treatments. We are going out for a very expensive meal on Sunday night and on Monday evening we are going to a favourite chinese of ours for Chinese New Year celebration (they are having it a day late!!)
To some this may seem extraveagent but it is our anniversary which we want to celebrate, and we are lucky that finances are not an issue when planning our weekend. This is a lot cheaper than going to Jamiaca which we were going to do before puppy.0 -
We always make each other a card, if she just went and bought one, I'd be quite put out, no thought in that!
We don't really care though, not even spending this valentines day or night together, so if anyone else is free...... make me a card
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I always thought the mans gift was to be shagged silly.
With a few extras thrown in as its a special occasion.0 -
do you feel the same about mothers and fathers day?
Yes! Why should we let the greedy card companies decide when we show our loved ones how much we care!!?
I refuse to give in to the pressure that society puts on people to worship occassions invented by Hallmark!
My girlfriend gets flowers every month, I take my mum out for lunch every Sunday and go to see my dad at the cematery at least once a week, but Hallmark says there's only one day a year I need to do that so maybe I'm looking at this wrong!0 -
Hey Dieselhead
This year I am buying something we can both do together. Is that something your OH might like? How about tickets for a gig, play, exhibition or film?

It's my birthday on Sunday and so I gave my BF his present yesterday...I don't do GIVING presents on my birthday. He got a portable kitchen sink (from IWOOT, with cheap postage) and appears to be thrilled with it.
He is currently in my bedroom wrestling with wrapping paper...I am becoming intrigued now...We may not have it all together, but together we have it all
