My late Dad used to make beautiful redcurrant jelly, I loved it on soda scones (which he also made on a cast iron 'girdle') I only wish I had the recipe, but redcurrants are few and far between in the shops and are quite expensive. We had a huge garden and almost everything was used .he also made apple butter and crab apple jelly .mind he was a chemist by trade so maybe he had secrets :):):)

I have just picked some blackcurrants off my bushes to make a sauce to go with duck. I added 250g of currants, 200g of sugar and some water to the pan and simmered, then added two glasses of red wine and left it to reduce into a rich sauce. This is to go with two duck crowns for six people but I think I have more than I'll need so I'll probably have some leftover to freeze for the next time we have duck.

There are loads more ready to pick but it's piddling down now so I think I'll save that job for tomorrow and make jam.

I have 3lb of beautiful blackcurrants in a large bucket in the kitchen, blackcurrant wine here i come :D

I made the same last year and its really nice, only had a handful of redcurrants this year as the huge blackbird nesting nearby has taken the rest to feed his family. Didn`t really expect much from those this year as they are only still small but next year i shall net them and see how many i get.:D

Just picked mine yesterday! Only one bush, but quite a decent crop. I picked out the bugs, leaves and bits of stalk, then washed them, put them in a pan with a little sugar, heated them gently till they burst and the juice ran, then roughly mashed them with the potato masher. I left them to cool, and filled an ice cube tray with them. Bunged it in the freezer, and when frozen popped them out into a plastic tub to keep in the freezer. Repeated a couple of times till they were all done ... looking forward to plopping a couple of cubes to melt into Lidl's yummy Greek style yogurt (huge tub about £1.50) for delicious and easy winter puds. HTH, tc
