Where did you find out about this?
In branch.. not something they wil be advertising though, something to do with upselling and getting customers to get a bank account then they get the 8% rate.

I wonder whether the 8% and the 7% savers are mutually exclusive?

Exculsive? from what I beleive they are open to everyone. The 7% is to entice the customer into the branch and the 8% is to secure new money and business by getting the customer to open a current account.

Can this account only be opened in branch or can it be opened online?

I'm sure what dagobert meant was is it possible to have one of each (a 7% and an 8% regular saver), or can you only have one regular saver, at either 7% or 8% depending on your circumstances!

My local Abbey branch already has posters up for the 7% regular saver, didn't see anything about any 8% one, but I was just passing on a bus at the time!

Be good if you could make your £1k investment (in order to obtain the 8% one) by putting £1k or more in one of these new 5.5% fixed rate two year bonds!

    Cheers

Ahh see what you mean. We have two Abbey currents and I will see if I have sal transfered to one if I can get the 8% on that and the 7% on the other...Wonder if just crediting the account with 1k or above will be enough to qualify for the 8% as long as it isnt already money that is with Abbey?

Many people have had bad experinces with Abbey. Over the years, they have attracted a lot of complaints in terms of customer service. Maybe, they may have cleaned up their act recently though.

I didn't see 2-yr 5.5% bonds on their website: Abbey Fixed Rate Bonds.
