    That doesn't seem very fair!! they are expecting you to do the work so why can't you apply for the job and get paid for it?

    Scaredy-re your car..that sounds normal to me...my X Type has abs,and when braking on snow/ice it makes a grinding sound,and feels like the pedal is juddering.....my DH says normal for ABS....don't worry..
