one company for all insurance or spread around?

car\house\pet\redundancy\breakdown insurance

I'm just curious as I got a good deal for the 1st year with my morgage but now it's time (August) to review & change them.

Do most of you use 1 insurance company for all of the above to take advantage of the discounts they give you or is it better to take each one individually?

Currently I'm with :-

Direct line for my car.
L&G for my house & contents.
Payment shield for redundancy.
M&S for my 2 cats.
RAC for breakdown.

It seems I can get a better offer by moving house & breakdown at least to direct line is that what a lot of you have done?

Cheers,
Worto.

I cannot see any one insurer being best in all areas. Especially as many insurers do not offer business in some of the areas you mention.

We've just insuraed our 3 cars with Admiral. £700 for instalment paying for a Lotus sports car, a mercedes 220 for business use also and a laguna estate for private use. No restriction on mileage and only the Lotus is in the garage the others are on a driveway.
Hubby thought this was a good deal??

You can get discounts for buying multiple products from the same company so it is always worth checking.

With the range of products you mention it may be difficult to get one company to cover all of them.

Might be worth trying MoreThan as well? They cover buildings up to £400K (a lot of policies quote only the rebuilding cost and you have to up that every year), and contents up to £75K. Discount if you buy both home & contents, plus discount if you buy online (but would ring to ask questions first) - I've saved over £400 on these two by switching. Think they do car insurance as well.

Martin's article has recommendations about breakdown cover. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1094823518,14076,

    cool,

thanks for all the answers, I'll call up & get some quotes next week then see what I can move to where.

I did like morethan but I'm a little put off by what happened to the credit card I had, I still seem to have 600 debt dissappeared somewhere between cards & I have no idea if I'm getting charged interest on it or if they have simply lost it?

    anyway thats for another day.

    cheers,
    worto.

More than can be beaten on home insurance as well. At least round my area they can. I would also have concerns over their security discounts and what they would or wouldnt pay out on if the security wasnt in use at the time. Their policy document has wording that could allow refuse a claim if you said you had windows locks and took the discount but then didnt use them. (a subject on another thread a few days back).

Last motor quote for me had more than more expensive than the cheapest and they were more expensive for pet insurance on my dog after the initial discount ran out.

There is an interesting endorsement in the ecarinsurance policy book too that if you state your car is kept in a garage over night but it is subject to a parked and unattended based claim at night in the vacinity of your home but it wasnt in a garage then there is an additional £50 excess to pay.

Given a lot of insurers no longer give discounts for garaging a large family car or below it is probably a bit of a con but it is still a good idea.

I am just looking to re-new my buildings insurance to get a cheaper deal in the tradition of a good money saver. I can't use the online quotes on most if not all sites as my house is a Listed Building.

I am now wondering if it is better(cheaper) to get Buildings and Contents Insurance from the same supplier ?

Currently I have my Buildings with Direct Line and Contents with Lloyds.

Well, Direct Line give 50% discount on contents and free annual travel insurance if you buy the two together from them. Other insurers do similiar. It is possible that 2 seperate companies could be cheaper but you also have the convenience factor of making a claim which is on both contents and buildings and only having to deal with a single company.

I have spent the afternoon looking at different insurance quotes and it seems Morethan are my cheapest and best cover options getting both Buildings(£400000) and Contents(£75000) for £30
