cheap mobile broadband

I currently have a talktalk contract (phone and broadband). I've also arranged a really good mobile phone contract that means I dont really need the home phone anymore.
If I cancel my talktalk contract I would have to pay £70 disconnection fee so instead I have transferred it to another house I sometimes stay at.

So what Id like to know is
a) whats the cheapest mobile broadband out there
b) if I stayed with wireless broadband whats the cheapest offer and do I also need home phone line. How does it work.
The talktalk transfer isnt going ahead for anothe couple of weeks.

You do not need a home phone line for mobile broadband, but it may not be an adequate replacement for normal broadband if you use the internet a lot. The download restrictions are normally severe unless you have an expensive contract. You only get 1GB per month on the cheapest contracts. This is ok for light web browsing and e-mail, but useless for video, gaming, music downloads, or even regularly browsing sites with lots of photos. Also, please be sure to check the coverage in your area carefully before going down this route, as mobile broadband can be slow (and even the maximum possible speed is slower than on a landline, but this wouldn't be noticeable just for light web browsing and e-mail).

3G broadband is really only for convenience if you move about a lot; after all, you could use it at both houses! However, for most people it is not really a cost-effective replacement for landline broadband to use around one house.

Can I have landline broadband without a telephone connected ie no line rental?
I know I can get wireless broaband for around £7 but thats not the 'real' cost if I then have to add in line rental and stuff.

Unfortunately, landline broadband always requires line rental (unless you go with Virgin, but they are not cheap).

By wireless for £7, I assume you mean landline broadband with a wireless router?
