  • Scrub round trying to delte the Malware/Virus problem. Just load in his last "safe" backup. If he doesn't do regular backups, then re-install the OS from scratch and start again.

    That wouldn't work though. The malware can write to the backups and other places as well.

  • Yeah thats what was paid for as I never scrolled down far enough to see the manual stuff:o

    So far things seem clear and at least the Avira is working again now.

    I will run a hijack log this tomorrow when the laptop returns to work and post here:D
  • My sister recently got this same one on her machine. When I did a little digging, I found a strange hidden folder under one of the user names under Documents and Settings. It was about 6 or 8 digits long and the name was comprised of letters and numbers. Therein lay the culprit executable. I deleted the exe and the folder. After that, I was able to get down to the business of removing the other crap.
