  • Just to add, if it is a motorised valve, you might have 2 on the system - 1 for the heating and 1 for the hot water. The heating one will click on and off when you turn the heating on and off (eg turn the room thermostat in the hall up and down). The hot water one will be the other one. Turn the hot water on at the programmer/timeclock, slide the valve lever, see if the pipes going in to the side of the cylinder start getting warm.

And British Gas deserve to be horsewhipped.

I dont think warmfront will fix it and they take ages to put a new boiler in, in any case. They told me a few years ago '"they not a repair service"

I have same problem with my boiler now since mid December two plumbers have let me down, I cant get enough hot water to bill a jug let alone anything else.

CH works fine. Plumber said he will changed a sensor that was last Friday not been back since, he has been twice now first time said he couldn't find a problem, but now he said its case of elimination.

Hope your mum gets her boiler done

Has the diverter valve motorised head been checked to see if it is moving freely?

Has the pin the above head operates been checked that it has not stuck?

The boiler is working for the central heating, so no need to replace the boiler. British Gas people tell porky pies because their staff are on commission for replacement boilers

I find that quite insulting as i am a BG engineer and do my best to help people on here as well as my customers... I just wish BG were as quick to sue people like you for the comments you make. BG are a large national company who are ther to be shot at but dont slate honest hard working employees that are just trying to make a living for their families...

So are you saying BG engineers arent on any sort of commission? Strange as we met a group of them on hols a few years back and were telling us how they even get prizes for the most new appliances sold.

OP - ring your local Citizens Advice Bureau for help and check if your council has a "Safe at Home" scheme.

i have been a BG engineer for 20 years and engineers do get paid for selling boilers ..
They called it best advice , but it means the engineer gets paid for putting a lead into sales weather or not it sells.
X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.
Please don,t let this put you off.
