This is why I don't bank at Barclays...

Wonderful "!!!!!!, meet elbow" situation in Barclays today!

I got my free £100 from Barclays earlier in the year after the wonderful loophole posted here and in the weekly email.

I eventually got around to closing the account today - it has taken me two months but every time I went into Barclays there was a queue a mile long.

I sat down with a banking advisor who checked my form and said everything would be sorted, but then commission mode kicked in and she tried to sell me other products.

First she tried to sell me a current account, and I said that I am closing one, why on Earth would I want to open another. She asked why, so I pointed over my shoulder to the two dozen or so people queueing for the tellers.

I then asked if they had a replacement offer for the credit card 0% for 10 months, as I need to tart my balance in September and the current leaflets show that the offer expired on July 5. She said that it didn't matter, I could still do it online. I politely informed her that I would get hit with a BT fee of 2% for doing it online, but she said she wasn't aware of that. Then a second person chipped in saying she thought new offers started next week, and then a THIRD person chipped in saying that I was wrong and that they always charge a BT fee for credit cards now.

I just got up and left, saying "you argue amongst yourselves, THIS is why I am not a Barclays customer".

Barclaycard's current online BT offer is 6.9% for the life of the balance with No Balance Transfer Fee. I've recently transfered my Capital One (29.9%APR  ) over and will be shutting that down for obvious reasons. As well as my Egg card as it seems the best Existing customer deal out there right now.

Can't see where she was coming from to get a 0% offer online because as far as I can tell there isn't one. If they really wanted to keep you as a customer she could have arranged it there and then.

The fact that two different banking advisors don't know what products and services are offered at the bank they work in is laughable and it really doesn't put them in a position to advise on financial matters if they don't know what they are talking about!.

In my area they have just refurbished the branch and they have this silly notice around the door saying "you are the best people in ........(insert area)"

i'd never be one of their customers , as i was lied to over barclaycard which i then did not use after finding out the truth
