Alliance & Leicester £100 for changing being sneaky

Options
Hi

I applied for this last November and received a letter 5th January saying 'All done Go ahead' I paid £1000 in on 29th January to make sure I was complying by putting £1K per month. BTW not all my direct debits have been properly switched. Letter received today saying you having paid money in within 11 weeks of opening.

Have tried phoning but just get little robotic people saying well you didnt follow the conditions so you cant have the money. I asked for an official day that the account was opened if it wasnt 5th January, they can't say. So I am now waiting on 48 hr call back.

Have decided I will just start changing DDs back and close account. Is it worth holding out to see if they will give me the £100. Has anyone else been successful in getting theirs.

I am also trying to find out where it says 'within 11 weeks' anywhere else other than the chastising letter. Can't find it written anywhere.

Any help gratefully received.

  • Why am I not absolutely astounded to hear that someone else is having problems with Alliance and Leicester. I had exactly the same problem when I joined 2 years ago. I have still never received £100 nor has the friend that I recommended. Since then I have had nothing but problems with them and under Martin's guidance I sued for the return of £125 of unjust charges.

In the last few days I have had a letter telling me they will not refund the charges as the court decision went in favour of the banks. I could write pages on my problems with A&L and am now in the throws of closing the accounts and going elsewhere, but I am loathe to leave until I have had my charges refunded and am considering suing in the courts.

As yet I have not met anyone who is happy with the Alliance and Leicester but perhaps this thread will throw up some satisfied customers. Ha, ha, ha.
  • I did receive my £100, a couple of days after they confirmed the switching process was complete in December.

However that is the only positive I can say about them. I am now switching back.
  • My DS joined A&L January 2009 and got £50 for transferring to a <21 account. The money came through quite quickly and, although it took a few months for them to finish and close his old BoS account there has been nothing to complain about so far.
I've no complaints with my current current account, but I'd happily transfer to A&L in the future if necessary.

    It's only a game

I would not count on getting the one hundred pounds. Just cut your losses and get a real bank account. From the numerous submissons on this forum it is clear that this bunch of clowns are not to be trusted.
Money is the headache, money is the cure!
  • Hmmm,

Yep, two years is a looooong time to hand on in there. Sounds like you are having a carp time with them.

I think the problem has been because it wasnt a straightforward changing say a SO for salary they overlook that self employed people need to make a payment in. As far as I can see I have deposited £1000 into the account in the month that they said 'Its all done' (but it wasnt, loads of DDs not changed over) and also the first month that any DDs have been taken out.

I know there are other threads about A&L and I think for those whom it goes smoothly initially good luck, it sounds like it is only a matter of time before you find out how horrendous their customer service is. Perhaps that is why they have to tempt people in with £100!!

Your account opening date would have been within a few days of your application.
You need to switch all your DDs and pay in £500 within 11 weeks of that date to receive the £100
  • I paid in £500 into the account, got some DD's transferred over, kept some SO's and DD's on the old account, not got my pay set up with them, got my £100! I want to wait to see the outcome of the overdraft facility debacle before I transfer all my DD's back to my old account.
Like most people here, I had problems with them not doing what I asked them to do. Either way I got £100 so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The work it took though, I will not bother with A&L again once this has all been sorted.

    What debacle?
  • They didn't match my agreed overdraft limit from the account I switched from.

I opened a Premier Current Account with A & L in December and was astounded to get the £100 switching bonus paid into the account last week, without any contact with A & L, this was after complying with all the T's & C's of course!
