    Hello sw-jay.

I understand your plight i really do,i had a 42" LG plasma that went pop in exactly the same way as yours, mine was just ninety days old.

However i think its quite sad that your life revolves around the television,..........During the war;)

    - £400 for a new PSU board, or
    - £400 for a local [ robber ] TV repair shop to replace couple of capacitors worth £2.80
    - £2.80 if you solder them in yourself

    It's under warranty.
I can't imagine it still being covered by the warranty if the OP takes a soldering iron to it themselves.
Therefore I wouldn't suggest this approach!

Have you tried your local freegle / freecycle?
I doubt you'll get a flat screen from there, but often people have got CRTs to give away. Better than nowt for a week, at any rate!
Remember to put it back on freegle (or keep it as a spare, give it away, etc) when you're done with it rather than taking it to the tip!

I do have a life I promise... although I do have a few favourite programmes that I'd be very upset if I missed!

Good news though.... The company I bought the TV from called yesterday to tell me I could get a replacement today. So relieved!

Before I packed it up in my car this morning I plugged it into a different wall socket and it started up ok. I don't know if this is relevant or just coincidence. Could this be the cause of the problem? All of the other components going through the other socket are fine so I don't see why it would affect just the TV.

I'm going to look like a complete prat if it starts up first time when I take it to be changed!

Fair comment JimmyTheWig I didn't spot that it's under warranty !

To the O/P ' sw_jay ' stop thinking / talking / asking about it, get it back to where you bought it from right now, before they find an " exclusion " clause because you've had it for more that 14 days or whatever.

    You're not.

Just do a search like I said on youtube or google there are thousands of exactly the same issues on all brands, both LCD & Plasma.

That's why it was a ' graded ' item in the first place.

I'm glad you had a complete replacement, rather than a bodged repair !
