New TV stuck in standby

Last week I bought a Samsung LE46A796 digital TV. I have Sky+HD, Samsung 5.1 surround sound and my Xbox 360 all connected to it via HDMI.
Everything was fine for a few days but now the TV is permanently stuck in standby and will not switch on. Occasionally if I turn it off at the wall and leave it overnight it will switch on again but this is very infrequent.
The red standby light is on so I know the TV is getting power and the picture quality is great when it's working, however neither the remote or the actual buttons on the TV will turn it on.
Anyone got any ideas what may be wrong? It's becoming very frustrating now and the company I bought it from cannot replace it for a week.
Thanks

turn it off and then unplug it, leave for half an hour or so then try to fire it up. Other than that do you have another TV you can watch for a week?0

Have you tried unplugging everything that is connected via hdmi? I have heard of some TVs occasionally having a problem like this, but then working when the other devices are disconnected.0

Where did u buy it from, warranty??0

Have you tried (If it isnt already) using it plugged directly into the wall?:idea:0

What happens if you press the "channel up" button on the remote control? (Or better still on the TV itself if you can find one?)0

Unfortunately it's a common problem with LCD's, but not brand new ones, is it new ?
- does it even attempt [ cycle ] to start ?
- does it make a clicking [ pick & click ] noise ?
or are you saying it does absolutely nothing at all ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Thanks for all the replies folks.
No TV again last night. I left it on standby all evening and at around 11pm it suddenly came back to life of it's own free will. I decided to test it out by turning it off and on with the remote control several times. When I did this it seemed to work absolutely fine. I then went to bed leaving the TV switched off. When I woke up this morning, once again the TV would not switch back on. When you press the remote, the first time it makes a clicking noise like it might want to start up and then nothing. If you leave it long enough it does fire up again but this could be anywhere between 15 mins to 24 hours. No use to me whatsoever!
I've tried all the things you've suggested such as removing everything attached by HDMI but this has made no difference. I can only assume now that the TV is faulty. I just cannot work out why it will come on at random times but not when I want it to. Very weird!
I bought the TV online from Electronic World which only sells graded TVs. I got this one for several hundred pounds cheaper than I would have from Comet or Currys and thought it was a bargain. I'm starting to wish now that I paid a bit more for it so I could just take it back to the shop when it goes wrong. In fairness it does have a year's warranty and the company have offered to replace it. Unfortunately I have to wait a week for them to do this.
God knows how I'll cope without a TV for this long. I might have to start conversing with the missus now!!!0 -
you have a computer you can watch tv on that even if its iPlayer least it will give you a temporary fix for a week. Spend more time on MSE with all your forum buddies, read a book, go bungee jumping, Go to comet and watch their TVs.
