Part exchanging my car in this afternoon.

Nothings been mentioned about its tax disc. Can I keep it? or is it considered part of the deal by the buying garage?

Garage tell me the cars going straight to auction.

Thanks in advance

Take it, and if they ask for it back, ask to see where it states the tax disc must be included in the contract.

Take it, the garage cannot get a refund on it, it is not part of the car unless specified in a contract.

take it with you, you are the only one that can get a refund and most wouldnt sell it with what tax is left on.

When a car is valued at a dealership it is valued 'as it sits' (Harveybobbles...) and therefore includes the tax disc. If I were you I would state that you intend to take the tax disc out to the dealer before making any 'rash' moves.

Yea a lot of dealers would like you to think that is the case, so if you had your wallet in the car, they would expect that as well.;)

Tell them if they want it, they can buy it at face value.

Take the disc and cash it in. It used to be a nice wee perk but now the v5 has to be changed in order for the dealer to get a refund so frankly its not worth the bother.

Sorry Inactive, got to pick you up on that !! I have lost count of the amount of people that do silly things like taking tax out, stereos, alloys etc!! Its not that the dealer is doing anything wrong its that people need to be honest. An example of this is the typical stereo scenario. You trade a car and tell teh customer that it is 'as it sits there, on the road' (and we made them sign to that effect). Then on trade in day it would turn up minus the stereo that they had fitted retrosprectively leaving a huge gap in the dashboard! 'wheres the stereo?', 'I took it out', 'But we valued the car with the stereo' etc etc etc.... So then we have to find a stereo for the car, at a cost to us etc etc etc .

I'm sure the cost of a £40 stereo and 1 minute fitting it really eats into the couple hundred plus in profit you hope to get from selling the car on ;)

Stereo's, alloy's etc. are part of the car, the tax disc isn't.

If you want the tax disc. pay the face value.

Got to agree, tax disc ain't part of the car.

although we used to say to customer that the price we gave included the tax disc.

used to get a fortune in refunds for px motors, but DVLA soon put paid to that. was a nice little earner that paid for the xmas party!
