Refilling paint pod

I've just used the PaintPod Compact for the first time and am very pleasantly surprised! Not only did the paint cover a base coat of previous [white] paint in one coat [Willow Tree] but the cleaning was as easy as Dulux promised...
I AM NOT ASSOCIATED WITH DULUX!!
I found that the painting roller gave a good coverage, provided I remembered to actually pay close attention to the fact that the coverage is mainly in the middle half of the roller
Please, do not do what I did and undo the screws at the bottom of the dip tube to clean it thoroughly.... it's taken me 2.5 hours to get it back on and I'm still not convinced it's right:eek: So, looks like I shall have to buy another one. Oh, well, lesson learned, I suppose.....
As for refilling the paintpod itself, this was my intention from the start and as soon as I have run out of Willow Tree I shall do so. The paint seems to be quite thick, but shall save some to compare with the next lot of paint [I shall buy Dulux to replace firstly, then if it works well, I shall try with some professional paint, eg Leyland Trade high opacity] so that I can thin it down to the same consistency.
On another thread on MSE someone replied that they'd done the paint swap and it worked well. Do bear in mind that the guarentee will be voided if you do that - I'm not bothered, but others might be.
Hope this helps. If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -

for the price of a paint pod you could have got a decent roller and tray and sleeve with plenty of change , as long as you clean it out and take care of it , it will last ages , it will do everything your paintpod will do , and of course you can use any colour paint from any paint manufacturer0 -
The best advice I can give is take it back and get a refund. With the money you've now saved you can buy a decent roller and still have a lot left for something else. An ordinary roller is quicker and easier.
Incidentally there's nothing "special" about the Paintpod paint. Its just watered down to make it flow better through the tubes.
Cheers
It is special paint its made to be thin and stick the roller so it doesn't spit everywhere.. You can thin down other paints but it will block the dip tube and new one is £9.. I use 4 pods and I had to get a new dip tube.. the paintpod is a bit of toy but they cleaner to use and dont waste paint so I think it cheap in paint. I dont unstand how it costs more in paint? if its £30 for 5L paint pod then at same price as £15 2.5L tin. If you what to do it on cheap then dont buy a paintpod and stop posting telling people to buy a roller and tray. I painted about 5 rooms with 4 pods.. £40 for paintpod white pod £20 2 pods colour £45 at homebase and 1 colour £30 at B&Q + long reach pole £12 = £147
Note.. It's very hard to paint ceiling with out the long reach pole.0 -

i used this as well and found it very quick and gave excellent coverage. The cleaning on the main Paint Pod took some time as had to run it twice, but to be honest, i did save time with the actual painting.
I painted 2 bedrooms a living room and hallways. Was very happy with it.
The only issue i had was with the extension pole, i couldn't seem to get it to work. took it back but the replacement didn't work either so im guessing there's somehitng im supposed to be doing but havent. Saw on some other place it works via bluetooth, which if true is quite impressive but wierd.
any ideas on what needs to be done from ppl who have used it
Thanks

i have yet to meet any decorators who have one - if they were that great we'd all be using one0

The one on Wilkinsons is a compact one, does it just screw in to the top of the paint pot, will it just sit in a nomal paint?0

I've used this to paint a whole house, worth seeing if there is a local ebayer selling paintpods as I got all mind at £17 each! (cheapest retail I've seen was £26 for white only). Yes, it has a few drawbacks: definitely worth cleaning it after a change of colour 2 or 3 times (noisy too) and worth buying a spare sleeve and dip tube (these are supposed to last 10 x 5 litre but as I was constantly cleaning and swapping colours mine didn't!) .
The main PROs are:
It cleans itself (not completely, worth running the roller under a warm tap after wards and leaving upended to dry).
It doesn't splatter (as long as you don't overfill)
Cons are limited range of colours and expense (ebay again if you wish to save money).Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0
