Always own brand unless there is no generic available.
  • Once saw an experiment which showed branded performed a bit better than non branded. They then swapped the non branded tablets into a branded box, and they worked better than in the first part of the experiment - not because the ingredients were any different/more effective but because the people THOUGHT the brands would work better.

Someone did once buy me own brand ones and they worked fine. Don't buy headache tablets, as dad has boxes of them on prescription.

Presumably, on prescription for your dad though, not you?

Am I the only one that pays for the brand?

If I get a bad headache I take Nurofen Advance. The ibuprofen is in a different formulation designed to act quicker. If I take ordinary iburofen I start being sick before the ibuprofen has a chance to work.

Sometimes people need to have the quicker acting variety.

  • I buy the cheapy paracetamol and co-codamol, but also will buy Nurofen Plus as (as far as I know) its the only ibruprofen/codeine mix on the market at the moment.

Isn't codeine addictive? Only saying so people can be aware. I suppose it is necessary if you have severe pain. Luckily, I have only ever needed paracetamol or ibuprofen. I always get the supermarket brand as I'm an incurable skinflint.

It can be, they recommend seeing the dr if you need it for more than 3 days in a row. I take it at totm, used to be prescribed the higher dose co-codamol but it was too strong and make me feel sick:( Nurofen Plus is higher strength than OTC co-codamol and one or 2 doses sorts me out whilst allowing me to function!

One of the things my friends in italy ask me to bring is British pain killers: much stronger here than available in Italy.

I get mine free from the doctors now but before i did i just used standard supermarket brands. Generally the ones that say they start acting quicker just contain caffeine to perk you up until the active ingredients start working so rather than pay £3+ for anadin/nurofen just buy a box of own brand ibuprofen for 36p and wash them down with a cheap own brand can of redbull!
