The store should phone them if you require them to. But it is easier to do it yourself, as they do it on behalf of the supermarket. Seems the staff there don't know, but hey...you buy a TV from somewhere their staff are experts on baked beans...you take your chances

Oh dear, the "You take your chances with a supermarket" crowd have come back. Although to be fair at least you didn't blame the OP, unlike some people.
I'm willing to bet if you contacted their customer services then they would admit that their liability under SOGA - people on MSE rarely seem to have bad stories when they contact someone other than the in-store staff (EDIT: Your second post just agreed with me here
). Contrast with Comet Customer Representative who came on here recently denying that they have to comply with SOGA until everyone had a go at him.
Additionally Esqui, I can only assume that the student population in your area is seriously low if you think the electronic/legal expertise is higher in a Comet or Currys than in a supermarket

It was all tongue-in-cheek, don't worry. I, for one, welcome our supermarket overlordsDrScotsman wrote: »Oh dear, the "You take your chances with a supermarket" crowd have come back. Although to be fair at least you didn't blame the OP, unlike some people.
I'm lucky, we have people who know enough about electronics in my store. Which, I'm led to believe, is more than some....Additionally Esqui, I can only assume that the student population in your area is seriously low if you think the electronic/legal expertise is higher in a Comet or Currys than in a supermarket
Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Well you save the hassle of dealing with different people. You don't have to pay the cost of those expensive helpline numbers I could continue..............
The hassle of dealing with different people?
How exactly? The OP has the hassle of getting the store to call etc which is going to be far more difficult than doing it herself.
the cost of calls is going to be tiny in comparison to wasted trips to the supermarket etc.0
