the scrapage scheme was targetted to people to buy new cars, the dealers reduced their low end petrol models to rediculously low prices on top of the scrapage.

so is it any wonder petrol car sales has risen over the last year?

Remember the scrappage scheme wasn't targetting people that do buy new cars every 3 or 5 years but people who have only ever bought a new car once or never before. A lot of these people had a low budget but were using this chance to get a new car that they probably haven't been able to or won't be able to afford again, so took the oppoutunity to buy a new car, the cheapest!!!
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

A lot of the new diesel are far better on emmisions then the petrols, which is why they have the £35 per annum tax band.
CO2 emissions yes, other emissions not neccessarily.

Of course making new cars from mainly raw materials hardly does any damage to the planet...;)

you seem to be missing the point, the excerise was to reduce emissions in cars.

besides the scrapped cars generally get shredded and end up a new life as a happy sheet of sheet metal.

    .

Whilst producing new cars in factories that produce erm...emissions, then send them half way around the world on ships that produce erm. emissions.;)

There's Euro5 and then Euro6 Emission standards to meet, which doesn't just govern Co2.

it also highlights a lot of reason that have been used as arguements against buying a diesel on the petrol V diesel threads we seem to have had a lot of debate on recently.
