We took out daughter to Heathrow Terminal 1 last week to see her off on her trip of a lifetime to South Africa game reserve as a volunteer. Anyway we were there apprx 2 and half hours charge was £10.20. If you stayed there 5 hours it would cost £17.50.

First time at Heathrow and the LAST!

What a flippen rip off!!

Want to discourage people driving to the airport as it clogs up the roads and increases risks of arguements over missed flights due to traffic jams

Use the tube or bus... much cheaper generally.

I thought Gatwick was bad enough, Daughters flight a few mins late and just went over the hour. £5.40.

Airport car parking has got very expensive. Even in the long stay car park at our local airport they charge £7.80 per day now (and my car always seems to come out with a new dent in it because some ignorant sod with a suitcase or briefcase doesn't give a crap about the cars around them).

Fine if you're in London - but not overly useful if you're not! which is why we never fly from Gatwick any more, only Bristol - but even then we can't get there by public transport, so we still get stuck for parking fees... Grrr....

But we are talking short term parking fees not long term... would you drive someone to gatwick and back for a friend/ relative rather than putting them on a train/ coach?

This is what really annoys me, you people in London get out and feel the wind. You may notice I live over the other side of the country, my daughter did not have the choice of which airport to go from.... you get told.

We live way out in the country, and to get to Bristol bus or train station would not only take hours, but if we had local buses (we do but about 2 a day) cost a fortune, then of course there is the cost of 3 train tickets to Heathrow...do you think I can afford a second mortgage!!??

You may ask why stay in the short stay car park, what else do we do? I am not just dropping her and scarpering, I wanted to make sure she was ok. She is only 18 and her first long haul trip abroad, I am afraid I am not going to just abondon her.

Of course in 2 weeks time I am going to be ripped off again, yes I an going to have to pick her up, I am just praying her flight will not be delayed!!! Yikes, dread the though of the parking bill!!

As I said rip off. Totally unjustified.

Just a side note, me and her are going on holiday soon, but we CHOSE to go from Cardiff, for 2 weeks long stay parking, right outside the main door.....£28!!! bit of a difference.

  • I agree about Heathrow, a year or so ago for around 45ming it was £5, which is ridiculous.

Needless to say i was not going to get ripped off a second time round ( i don’t mind sensible charges), so on my return pickup, i dropped my passenger seat accomplice at Heathrow who went to collect the arrived person. I waited at a nearby McDonalds car park- received the phone call later that they were outside terminal whatever, i picked them up- total cost of parking -nil. Shame its got to this but i refuse to get ripped off.

You should try Leeds Bradford Airport. They have a drop off/short wait car park at £1.00 for 15mins (might even be as little as 10) and then it rises dramatically something like £1.75 for every next 15 min period. Then just to really p*** you off you can't pay in or at the car park, instead you have to go into the terminal building, find a machine and hope that it works and that you have money.
The building owners even employ people to harrass (potential) customers collecting/dropping off.
I now wait in the nearest industrial estate that doesn't have a forest of yellow lines for the phone message " I've cleared customs, security etc, come get me" then I treat the airport like a drive through.
Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying parking fees when its needed and fair. But airports take the p*** and abuse their position!

Hi Vickym, have you tried the local car parks around Bristol?

I just booked 8 days with the pub next to the airport for £25:
