Hello I need your help please...
I have just bought a T reg clio in a rush as I needed a car and I had a suspicion today that something was a miss with the car...
Anyway I have done a check on it on mycar check and it was a cat D write off in march 2006.
Is there a law against not telling you this?
No there isn't. Unless the seller lied in the advert i.e. that the car hasn't been in accident then you have no come back.
Nope. Can I do anything about it?
I personally wouldn't have a full car load of young children in any old car unless it was one know for a great safety record.Do you think it's safe to have the kids in?
Older cars have less safety features than new ones.
The car is legal if it has a valid MOT.I suspect it's front end damage as there is a crease on the bonnett and looks to be a couple of marks (on very close inspection).
Any help greatfully recieved.
You should have had the car checked by a mechanic before you brought it to see whether it was safe for you to drive on the road. Regardless of whether a car has been in an accident or not, you need to check out old cars before you buy them as they may not be roadworthy.
As someone else pointed out Cat D cars are the lowest form of damage. All this tends to mean is that it was not economical for the insurers to repair it, and as the car is over 10 years old that is understandable.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Only at the moment it is tested.;)
True.
But unless you know otherwise - normally by the police stopping you or a fault you know about - you will presume your car is roadworthy if it has a valid MOT.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I always reckoned a write-off was exactly that, a car written-off permanently

Since there isn't a Latin phrase for "Please do a HPI check before handing over cash", Caveat emptor.0

Sadly that will not make a scrap of difference, they will all go and buy a car without any help/advice, yet they will not buy a house without seeking some kind of expert help.:(0
