Car bought- cat d but I didnt know!

Hello I need your help please...
I have just bought a T reg clio in a rush as I needed a car and I had a suspicion today that something was a miss with the car...
Anyway I have done a check on it on mycar check and it was a cat D write off in march 2006.
Is there a law against not telling you this?
Can I do anything about it?
Do you think it's safe to have the kids in? I suspect it's front end damage as there is a crease on the bonnett and looks to be a couple of marks (on very close inspection).
Any help greatfully recieved.

No law forcing them to tell you, as long as they didnt state it was HPI clear or misrepresent another way.
Cat D is the lowest form of damage so hopefully all repaired and safe but obviously needs to be inspected for peace of mind.
  • also you need to inform your insurance company and if you bought private you are goosed

Presumably it's been on the road at some point in the intervening four years, so anything that's wrong with it now is unlikely to be connected to possibly minor damage that long ago?
  • Don't forget that it's a Renault so the CAT-D is the least of your worries. ;)

Cat D is the "lesser" form of write off isn't it? Normally limited to cosmetic damage etc.... (i.e someone smashed the rear window and the insurance co didn't fancy paying out for it and the stereo to be replaced.......)

I'd have no concerns about using it. But it might not be worth as much when to come to sell it.

Why do people do the checks after they have bought the car?

They just do, same as they come on here after they have purchased a dog of a car, seeking a miracle cure for their self inflicted problems.
