Update from Tes

Hello, all my friends. Just thought id let you know how we're getting on. We are now living in the new house and in a lot of ways it is better than I expected. The moving day was a complete disaster though. Because we moved ourselves to save money, it was all very stressful. Several things went wrong over the weekend and on the Monday 3/7 OH did not manage to get the moving van till 10.30 and we were supposed to be out at 1pm! The buyers turned up with their moving van and waited (very cool, calm and collected because they had hired a firm to move them). We were panicking, just chucking stuff we hadnt packed into bags any old how. There was just OH, DS and me to do all the lifting, we had some pretty heavy stuff and it must have been the hottest day of the year. We were totally dehydrated, exhausted and stressed out. We finally got our stuff in the van by about 2.45 but had to leave all the shed stuff till the next day as we couldnt fit it in. OH and DS drove off in the moving van before I came out of the house and when i drove over to the new house, there was no sign of them. It turned out that the moving van had broken down on the Toys R Us roundabout which is pretty busy. By this time we had not eaten all day and all our worldly goods were in the van on the roundabout. When OH telephoned the company they said 'we've got another van you can transfer your stuff to  Eventually they sent out a mechanic and it was the gear box linkage and luckily for us he managed to fix it. By this time it was nearly 6 and we still had to unload our entire household. Luckily a very kind neighbour helped us and we got it all in by 10. Also another neighbour gave us cold drinks. I felt so ill the next day I couldnt go to work.

We seem to have settled in a bit though. OH has ripped out all the old kitchen cupboards and put in some temporary units and worktop from Ikea. We have bought a hob and oven which are pretty good and can be used once the new kitchen goes in. Hes got the dishwasher and washing machine working and put up a wardrobe in DSs room as he was living out of suitcases. So its not so bad. Oh and you know I said it was very dark, well, we changed the net curtains and its made a lot of difference!!. There is a lot of work to be done but the loft is enormous and OH reckons he can put in a loft extension and do all the work himself, a massive double bedroom and ensuite shower room. The area is really lovely. Im not frightened to hang washing out in the dark and its really nice coming home here. Spending the money has put us back by about £1,000 but I'm going to try to pay it all off this month and then we can start paying off the debt again. At least its liveable. Am still determined to get straight. DD has arrived in Thailand and is in Bangkok at the mo. Cant help but worry. She is going to get a job when she comes home. Its nice to be back but dont suppose ill be on much in the next few weeks cos we're in such a mess. There's no storage and nowhere to put stuff. The loft is full of this horrible fibreglass stuff that irritates the skin so have to be careful what we put up there. Bye for now and goodnight.

    Hey tes! :D

Glad your settling in! I hope you can look back and have a chuckle at the van breaking down! I have to confess I did! :o But only coz it's the sort of thing that would happen to me!

And I would have told them to go whistle if they thought I'd move all my stuff into another van on a bloody roundabout!

Yes, we told them to go whistle all right. In no uncertain terms. I think I will be able to laugh about it one day, but I havent quite reached that day yet!

No, I'm sorry. I didnt mean to sound oversensitive. Its just that the memory is still too vivid in my mind but come to think of it I have been telling people at work and laughing. And at the time, it seemed hysterical or at least we were on the verge of hysteria. So yes please do have a giggle over it for me.

    Hello treasure

Been thinking about how you are getting on. Glad to see you made it in one peice - finally :D Glad the place is safe for you. nothing worse than being scared is there?

Dont worry about your DD, loads of my mates have been to thailand, they were all fine ( once theyd stopped being conned into buying a million sarongs :) ) and they have all had a great time. Of course you will worry though, is she emailing you? Dont worry if she goes off track for a few days, Ive been places before that dont have one phone line in the whole village, and its perfectly safe.

Im sure youve caught up with me by now in any case. Loks like we are going to have to borrow a bit more, to sell this place. Never mind, Im borrowing off the parents they are fine with it, but Im going to be gutted updating my sig :o
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Glad things are working out for yoy Tes.

Just wanted to say my daughter went to Thailand last year, I know just how you feel, worst moment was when she rang to say she'd left all her travellers cheques and tickets under a mattress in a beach hut 14 hours away. But she got through it and the Thai people were fantastic, she had a wonderful time and I'm sure your dd will too.

We moved into our new home just over a year ago and it took us a whole weekend to move as we did it all ourselves and could only afford a tiny van so we had to make many, many trips. Like you i felt ill during it all as the stress just got the better of me. I still look back now and think, never again, although i know we will but next time i hope it goes a bit better:rolleyes:

We still have so much to do, the house is in a bit of a state and what with money being tight i sometimes feel disheartened, but when i think back to where we used to live and all the stress due to the area and neighbours i smile knowing that whatever the problems with this house we made the right choice.

All the best in your new home:beer:
