Alias - The dramas are only for BFG pax. If you are outside the EU in Gib (are you?) then the old "It has arrived" email is enough.
When I got stuff sent to me on Telic they asked no questions once I sent the email confirming arrival and the refund was immediate.
I also got refunded on Telic - was straight forward - I was surprised tbh how quick and trouble free it was. Would be easier if it was taken off from the outset to begin with.0 -
We are in Cyprus and have tried unsuccessfully to get vat back for recent purchases on Amazon. They said we were not actually entitled to the vat, but because there was a loophole in the regulations they previously gave us the vat back. The regulations have recently been changed so no longer a loophole, so we can no longer claim it back.
We were also told that the forms they refer to for claiming it back can only be used for work related items.
I have heard of someone quoting the regulations off the govt site to them and getting a refund, but not managed to find it to do it ourselves.
If anyone has any more info or has managed to claim the VAT back please let us know.
Try the HMRC website you need to read through
Notice 703 VAT: Export of goods from the United Kingdom
August 2006

Hi,
Can you update this to let me know if you had any further success with this as I am having similiar issues. I was not aware that there was a loophole and it had recently been shut off. Thanks.0 -
As far as I know you can no longer claim the VAT back unfortunately! There goes yet another one of the perks of forces life abroad!!0

I spoke to the Fiscal Officer (Cyprus) regarding VAT not about Amazon another site as i put my BFPO address in they wanted me to complete a form they emailed me but the Fiscal Officer said we are no longer allowed to claim UK VAT back now, he emailed the company and told them that only if it was for Unit (Business) use can the VAT be claimed back. I was told that you can claim the VAT back on Cyprus VAT if you spend over €100, but you have to obtain a proforma invoice first then visit the Fiscal Office to get a form then take the form back to the shop then you can purchase the item VAT free.
Sorry don;t know about other countries.:beer:0
