Republic of Ireland for weekend - using mobile

Got an orange mobile phone but I'm assuming that since the Republic is not the UK, that my call bundles isnt going to apply and I'm going to be stuck with outrageous international call costs?

Any suggestions how to get around this? Buy another sim?

Yeh. Just saw this. Also, if I pay a fiver one off Calls are cheaper and incoming calls are free.

Does this mean if someone phones me from a UK mobile it wont cost them any more than normal? (i.e. nothing if they've got minutes in a bundle).

It never costs the out going caller anyway, the extra cost always goes to the phone that's roaming.

if your phone is unlocked then put a different sim in it that offer you international calls at a lower rate ie t mobile

t.mobiles euro booster lets you make up to 69 minutes of calls, receive up to 157 minutes of calls or send up to 272 texts Text for 20pounds ( they do have cheaper ones as well which start from 5pounds and go up to 30 you can get free sim on line with t mobile as well


Even if you phone is not unlocked or you dont want to unlock it it may possibly worth buying a really cheap phone that will work abroad and unlocking if you need to or unlocking your own phone depending on what you have



I dont know if this is the best deal out there or not for you its depends on how much you plan to talk and if your calling mobile or landlines but its the way i do it now after a huge bill from turkey a few years ago I also have a pre paid travel sim that i can take anywhere with me when i travel abroad as well these can be really good if you go abroad a few times

just remember that unless you register the number so that you can top up using your credit /debit card or register on line to top up you cant by tmobile vouchers in the republic

also turn of your data stuff and emails on your phone as this is what really bumps up the bill

Only going to Ireland for the weekend but dont want to spend loads on a few phone calls home. Might look into a £5 tmobile sim.

For roaming in Ireland, it depends whicn UK network you are on. Vodafone has Passport and O2 has Ireland add-on options which are different on payg and contract, or also My Europe Extra. On Orange you might add their Europe Traveller for £5, then up to 200 minutes each of outgoing calls 28p/min, incoming free. Might not be worth bothering just for a weekend, though for 20 minutes of each it would be worthwhile. Aside from options like that, you'd be on rates of 35 to about 43p a minute outgoing, about 18p incoming.

And Irish SIMs might be worth looking at, of course. Rates to UK seem to start from 15 cents a minute for landlines

This isn't true for all UK networks, and on T-mobile only applies to Flext contracts

yes i know my mum is on t mobile flex thats why its ok for her to call me but i mentioned that the op would need to check this to be sure

if you want to buy an irish sim card you can buy them on ebay for a fiver just google irish sim card ebay ect

my husband bought an 02 one a few month ago when he was spending a few weeks in ireland and need a irish number to be called on
he got it in about 3 days the seller will top it up for it for you for a 80cent ebay fee if you top up by a tenner so thats it ready before you get there

What sort of format is the number you get? Is it a geographic no or 0845 or something?
