Basically the screen has been damaged from impact and no display is showing. Is there any way to get the data off of it?

If you're not planning to get the netbook repaired just buy a caddy of the approriate size for the hard disk and plug it into any other computer.
That assumes the hard drive isn't damaged of course.
Or if you need to just get a few details do as debitcardmayhem suggests and plug in a monitor. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
If you tell us the make of Netbook we could help you more.
if it's a "netbook" then it probably has a "Solid State Drive" or a small Laptop drive.
If it's a laptop drive then it's easy.. just take it out and you can plug it into an external USB caddy and read the info...
If it's a Solid State Drive "SSD" then it's probably using a "mini-pci" socket (usually used for wireless cards in motherboards.) it's a small socket (like the connection you plug laptop memory into) and most motherboards that have wireless will have this small socket

Another potential pitfall - some older netbooks had their drive(s) soldered in. If you have such a system you will have no alternative but to plug in an external monitor.0

If only the screen has been damaged and the netbook has an Ethernet port (most do), the simplest way to retrieve the data on it would be to connect it to another computer (or even to your router, if that has a spare Ethernet port) by means of an Ethernet lead, navigate the other computer to the netbook's hard drive and then just download the data straight into the other computer.
not quite that simple though.0 -
When the OP let's us know the make and model of the netbook we'll be able to help more!Laters

you mean network the 2, did the op say they had a router or a home network if they have fair enough, but if not do you know how to direct cable connect 2 Pc's?0 -
if you have a monitor you can use, there is a way to do this without buying caddies or anything.
1) open a Skydrive account (free) this gives you 25gb of storage space, in the clouds
2) upload your data from netbook
3) either leave data in "the clouds" or download to a pc of your choice
I tried this Skydrive out about an hour ago and it works fine and is easy to use, go to http:https://www.skydrive.live.com. If 25gb storage is not enough you can get another 50gb free at adrive.com(free again), not tried that one though0
