Dear MSE and all who read this.

I am planning to take my wife and Two Children to Phoenix in America ( where my Wife originates) back to see family over the Easter holidays. I have been looking at a lot of cheap flight sites and have a varied range of prices.

We are on a very small budget and I am looking for advice, tips and just some much needed help really. I do not have much experience when it comes to booking flights so don't want to be 'done' by hidden charges etc etc.

I look forward to any respones and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Regards

Phil272

ps. My children are 8 and 1 if that makes a difference.

what about preferred uk airports? (for example, i live in nottingham, so preferred is east mids, but if it was significantly cheaper, i would travel down as far as london, or as far north as manchester)...

A good starting point might be to visit the US airlines websites such as American,usairways,delta..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I would think about next year now if you want cheap flights, we got 4 tickets to atlanta via amsterdam (no direct flights from our area) for £1100 the same flight now is that each :(

you will also want to think do you want a seat for the little one, you dont need one but will end up with the little one on your knee which isnt good.
  • We have recently booked flights from Heathrow to NYC Newark airport, flights were more expensive than hotel. Make sure your ticket price includes taxes, air passenger duty and fuel surcharge. We booked through Hays Travel & paid £2180 for family of 4 incl hotel for seven nights & seemed a fair price, we also got a discount from them against the Thomas Cook price.

You haven't said which airport you want to fly from. In indirect flight may be cheaper but obviously longer than a direct flight into Phoenix Sky Harbor Intcont airport (assuming this is were you want to land).

You could try netflights.co.uk, flightcentre.co.uk or travelbag.co.uk as well expedia.com would be a place to start. A quick visit or phonecall to your local travel agent would also give you some idea of costs. A quick look on travelbag's website from Heathrow to Phoenix S.H. on 5/4 for 14 nights was £449 incl taxes with BA. I'm personally not sure of the possible strike situation with BA though. When you get a price mention this to the next company you call as they may be able to better it if your lucky.

If you check the website of whichever airport you want to fly from it will tell you which destinations they fly into. Phoenix S.H's website will also tell you which airlines fly into there.

    Good luck with your search.

As others have said it is prob way to late now to get a cheap flight this Easter, Flight prices are released about 11 months in advance and are often cheaper booked when they are released

OP clealry edited PHOENIX in after being prompted by Wanye ;). Although the choice of route is now less, there are still flights available, via various U.S. or European hubs, for around the £400 mark p.p. return including all taxes etc. Maybe a 2% credit card fee on top.

Thank you to everyone. I have this morning booked our flights for Easter. I am amazed that from the original quote I have said over £500 Pounds. Thrilled!!!!. I especially like the points about going direct to Airlines and changing UK Airports.

    Thanks agains all
