I have tried and they just won't entertain a replacement as the say the machine has no inherent fault due to the fact that the same thing never breaks twice.

I phoned them and explained about the damage to the litchen cabinet and they said I have to contact the third party repairers, but i have refused as they made me very nervous in the house (I can't post too much on here in case it gets taken further) and I insisted they were not to set foot in my house again. I also insisted that my contract was with the insurers, not the freelance repair people they sent. They are going to get back to me.

As for the leak they are sending one of their own engineers on Tuesday, which is lucky as it has now developed a second leak.
I'm usually really good woth this sort of thing and have always had replacements or refunds, but talking to these people is like hitting your head against a brick wall as they keep insisting that as the shop I bought it from originally went into liquidation I have no further rights except for those under the terms of my extended warranty and I have checked that and I am only due a replacement when they decide it can no longer be fixed..

that sounds very poor on their behalf. Surely the amount of callouts, repairs/parts etc, they may has well have replaced the thing by now!!

    Oh well, keep at them!
  • Get in touch with them and tell them you are going to report them to the office of fair trading if this matter isn't resolved once and for all.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

  • oh dear... f13... lol!!

was just looking around bored and saw this! we had EXACT same problem on our washing machine... had it repaired like 4-5 times... turned out that it wasnt the washer (well it was initially) but it was actually the engineer...

according to the last man who came out who was actually hotpoint/indesit - a lot of the engineers are contracters and a lot of them arent too bothered if they fix it or not because its unlikely they'll come back...

anyway it transpires that after replacing nigh on everything over the 4-5 times it broke... the fault all along was actually a pressure switch... and because that had broke it caused all the other faults... everytime someone came out they fixed all the other faults but not the pressure switch! hence the problem would happen again in another few washes!

and f13 i found out off the last man... if you go on the website it tells you what all the errors mean but f13 is special... it can have the meaning on the website or can come up when it doesnt actually know whats wrong... oh joy!

anyway touch wood its working now!

    Hi,

I had problems for 3 months with my machine, endless phonecalls to 'Customer Services' got me absolutely nowhere. With 4 kids was at the end of my tether so went to see CAB.

They made one polite but stern call to customer services on my behalf and within 3 days I had a brand new machine !!:j

Might be worth a try !

It looks like I have another issue I'm just waiting to see the wording of a letter from the insurers. I asked them to arrange a repair to my broken cabinet or to allow me to get a quote for their approval to get the back of the cabinet replaced and it seems they are insisting it is nothing to do with them at all. They want me to deal only with the engineer they sent, which is odd as of course i have no details for him, not even a name!

I am beginning to doubt my own sanity here, surely my contract is with the insurers and not with any third party engineer that they send?

  • The UK WhiteGoods site has a forum with 242 posts about problems with that model of washer dryer!!

It is not much help to you right now but its a good place to look for HONEST advice from real appliance engineers when you buy your next washer.

They really advise against buying combined washerdryers no matter who makes them.

I am so cross I can barely type. I have the letter here from the insurers that basically says the engineer disputes all the complaints against him, says I refused to buy a part that would have made his job easier (I know nothing at all about that) and then gave him permission to damage my property. he confirms that I was happy and content at the damage done which was previously agreed by me.

I have obviously been on the phone to the insurers again and they say that these things are difficult as it is my word against that of the engineer, however they accept that on the face of it the scenario as explained seems unlikely and they will call me back shortly.

So basically be warned, take extended insurance and leave yourself open to your insurers sending a third party tradesman, who damages your property and is prepared to make a statement that says the customer agreed beforehand.

This guy sounds like a repair technician, and not a very good one at that. Not an engineer.

Sorry it's a petty irritation, given what you're going through.
