washing machines and engineer

My Hotpoint washer dryer has been a problem since the day I bought it a little over 2 years ago and has been repaired every few weeks since apart from a run of about 6 months last year when I thought it was finally sorted.
Had it fixed a few weeks back and it broke again within 3 weeks (these are always different faults) . Called the insurance and the best they could do was today, so I have around 2 and a bit weeks washing for 5 people piled up in every corner. I do what I can by hand but it is almost impossible to dry anything.
Just had a call to say engineer is sick and can't come. Arghhhhh

what make is it? ours is a WD440 and have had it 3 years max. its !!!!. riddled with problems from around 6 months aftdr we got it onwards. usually they change the heating element and tell us all will be ok.
tell me, is it usual for half a load [small load] of cottons to be on a dry cycle for 2 hours and still be damp? its wrong.
and as for their fridge freezer we have that is known for loads of faults but comet arent budgine even after stating the sale of good act theirs not the manufacturers fault.
drives me mad. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
why have you kept the machine? I would have got a replacement/refund after the first fix never mind two years down the line!
We had a Hotpoint fridge/freezer and was sold it on the premise of the fantastic warranty offer (5 years parts). Of course when i did come to use the warranty i was told it was a 90 pound callout and then the labour on top.
Also had problems with a Hotpoint washing machine.
This happened a couple of times, each time losing a full freezer of food, i scrapped the fridge and have bought a Samsung. I'll never buy Hotpoint again.0 -
Mine is the WD440 as well, I did try rejecting it within a couple of weeks of delivery but the shop I bought from went into liquidation and it all got confused as to who I was writing to.
Hotpoint sent their own engineers at first and discovered that the shop had installed it wrong, Hotpoint use a different pipe system which was why the the dryer left things as wet as they started. They fixed that, changed the door hinge and persuaded me all was well.
It went about 2 months then before it broke again, one recurring problem is that the filter is deep inside the machine. On my other machines with dryers I used to have to clean the filter every few weeks, on this you can't so every couple of months or so they had to come and clean the filter. Then they replaced that with a new bit as they said the design was faulty, but now that only goes about 8 weeks before an engineer has to come and sort it out again. Then last year out of the blue they wrote to me and said I could pay £60 for a yeas extended warranty and that covered all parts and all labour and if my machine was not repairable they would give me money towards a new one. So with a couple of call outs already I am well ahead on the costs of the insurance. I keep hoping they will get so bored of replacing bits of the machine they will just tell me to go away and let me have money towards a new one, anything other than a Hotpoint though.
I've had boards changed, 'brushes' (whatever they are) and last time they removed a thick metal coil that had mysteriously bent to an obvious degree?
Like you I would never ever touch a Hotpoint again and even in the house we rent out when a tenant asks if they can replace the basic washing machine we also tell them we will pay a certain amount as long as they do not buy a Hotpoint under any circumstances.
Even their own engineers are scathing about the build quality on some models.
I dragged myself to the launderette today to do the important stuff, works shirts, uniforms, sheets etc. I'm going away now for a couple of days but when i get back (the same morning as the engineer has been rebooked) I intend to make a claim for compensation for my missed appointment and also my launderette bills.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It seems I am not alone then!!
Very similar story to yours, 2 years ago got a Hot Point Washer Drier, we are now on our 5th (maybe 6th, lost count) machine, we actually changed from Hotpoint halfway and got replaced with Indesit (same company and pretty similar products) but still getting the same faults.
Ours keeps getting F13 errors, am just writing to the MD of Indesit to ask why they can't produce a machine that is durable and fit for purpose!!!!0 -
Indesit are even worse................
I know Hotpoint/Indesit machines look ok, but after a fridge/freezer, washing machine and a tumble dryer packed up on me and i found that their warranty was pretty worthless i vowed to pay the extra and get decent makes from now on.
Like i said earlier, i bought a samsung fridge freezer and not had a single problem with it so far!0 -
My M-I-L has a hotpoint WD series and swears by it.
No, no, that's ambiguous. She swears at it. When we were after getting a new machine she warned us off it. We have a Beko- cheap as chips, a bit slow, but it's been reliable.0 -
Ah, I have an Indesit washer/dryer and the dryer part packed up just after a year of ownership ... it's a shoddy piece of poop, and when I finally get round to replacing, I won't touch either Hotpoint or Indesit again ...0

Just an update. Washing machine repaired last week. Three days later it broke down again, completely dofferent fault. I have yet another day off work tomorrow for yet another repair man to come.
This is just getting worse. Normally it will work for about 6 -8 weeks before breaking, 3 days is a record I think. This time the drum won't turn at all, it whines and it whirrs but will not turn.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Washing machine is working again but they have had to replace pumps, belts and a electrical board this time. Took them 2 1/2 hours.
Unfortunately they have also broken the back out of my kitchen unit, it is in pieces behind the rest of the fitted kitchen. Just going to phone up to complain.
EDIT: Just noticed that cold water pipe now leaking into cupboard..arghhI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin, seriously! Why are you accepting repair after repair? Tell them to take the thing away and either bring you a new one (not Hotpoint/Indesit) or get a refund.
Like i said, after having 2 or 3 freezer defrosts due to a faulty product and constantly worrying "is/when is it going to break again* - i just got a new one.0
