First Direct - venting my frustration

Not exactly hurt my pocket but I'm fuming. I've just spent several minutes diligently filling in pages of application for a First Direct bank account. Right at the end I get told "Sorry, the application process is unavailable due to routine maintenance".

Sorry, but couldn't you have told me that AT THE START!!!

You want to know how often companies use the "routine maintenance" message for things that are not at all routine? :)
Betting their systems had a hiccup and that is their standard message :)

could be that there are problems but some are getting through? did you get an email confirmation? you could always ring up and see if your application got through? if not, its possible they could just do a phone application for you

I have a similar problem with them whenever I want to amend a standing order or set up a bill payment. I fill out all the details, click submit and then get the message telling me they are unable to process my request and to try again later. When I click ok it kicks me out of the internet banking. I have reported it but they didn't know why it didit. And I thought intetnet banking was supposed to be quicker than phoning them
