When backing up a Nokia on PC Suite, it does not backup the applications on the phone. Is there any way of doing this?

Think its dependent upon the application (usually java files), if the developer enables the backup feature or not. Otherwise you need to have a copy of the java program file used to install the application (which in many cases if you download an application, you will not have).

If it is a S60 phone any native apps (usually installed with a .sis or .sisx file) are included in the backup along with any of your data associated with them. Same with the widget applications which are installed with a .wgz file. The Java applications I use (Opera Mini, essentially) are backed up as well however as OneADay has mentioned this can depend on the application.
