    Dear Mr. Bolen

    Answer to your questions:

    1. Well, the car is still available. I keep driving the car to Nigeria but the buyers never come to collect
    2. Well, the mileage keeps increasing because I keep driving the car to Nigeria
    3. Well, what price do you want to pay? And how much do you want to send me in your fake cheque?
    4. Well, I have left the car in a safe location in Lagos, waiting for a genuine Nigerian buyer. Is that an oxymoron or are you just a moron trying to con me?
    5. Well, I want to sell the car so that I don’t keep getting e-mails from morons like you
So, why don’t you just !!!! off?

SO what was in it for the scammer here? I never heard of a 419'er buying something?

Pretty soon he'll contact Paul and say Paul will have to pay a fee in order to get the cheque (and if Paul were to pay this fee, he'd never hear from the scammer again). If by some remote chance he does want to actually pay £7,200 which is much more than the going rate of the car, he'll be looking to get the excess money transferred back to him from Paul's account, thus creating the impression that it's legitimate money from a UK bank. Chances are it's drug money (if it exists at all) and he has to find a way of getting it into the UK banking system.

EDIT: Oops I thought I was on Paul's other thread about the Nigeria/Dublin/Belgium guy, but the principle's the same.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I am selling my car for £3,500.

The fraudster will send me a fake cheque for double that!

he will want me to forward the 'excess' money to his shipping company by Western Union (once the cheque has cleared).

But because the cheque is fake, the bank will then recover the money from my account and report me to the Police for fraud!

Just because a cheque has 'cleared' it does not mean the cheque is not a fake. You have to wait for the cheque to be 'GIVEN VALUE'.

If the cheque is from overseas it may clear within a few days but it could take months to be GIVEN VALUE (especially if payment to your account is by NEGOTIATION - rather than COLLECTION).

So, the moral is, never trust any cheque (or even a Banker's Draft) - both can be forged or stolen!

I just read the other thread and understood the deal he was proposing. The shipping company stuff wasn't mentioned here. There must be one born every minute.

Your replies remind me of http://www.419eater.com/ (without the funny photos)

Yes, I would love to get photos of him, but he would probably intimidate someone else into posing for a picture!

The best photos to get are ones where these guys want to meet you to collect their money! In that instance you can be sure that the person collecting the money is part of the scam.

The trick is to arrange a meeting near an internet webcam in the city they are based whilst you sit quietly at home in front of your computer watching them!

This is worth a read to help understand how the 419 scams work (thanks to James on another thread for posting this link)
