Paul - haha....love your replies to the 419er.:T
Mcnutsuk - 419eater is classic! Scambaiters Rock!! Totally hilarious stuff,
especially the moron 'priest' who even went as far as to tattoo himself in order to swindle money out of a wealthy religious group (Holy Church Of The Tattooed Saint :rotfl: ). http://419eater.com/html/okorie.htm
I got two of these letters just last week - bloody annoying. If you wanna have some fun with the sad-acts who send these letters here are a couple of sites you might wanna use to compose the perfect reply. Just fill in the moron's details as per the letter they send you and voila!!:rotfl:

Thanks Paul Varjac. One of the best threads I've seen recently.
I've nominated you for Post of the Month.

Top thread Paul. Thought of getting Guardian Money, or something like that to publish it."Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.
Do critisise what they say, and what they do, especially if what they say is different to what they do. They can help that"

It has been fun on this thread.
I could have done this thread three times over - yes, I had three Nigerian scammers expressing an 'interest' in my car!
I have also had four companies wanting me to advertise my car on their websites. - They turned out to be scammers to! CARDATA was one of these and has been mentioned elsewhere on MSE!
The moral is, if you ever advertise your car on a website, only deal with buyers whose identity can be verifed. If they want to pay by banker's draft or cheque then pay your bank a fee to clear the banker's draft/cheque that day and ask for a letter from your bank that the banker's draft has been 'GIVEN VALUE'. Once you have that letter then release the car. If your bank cannot write a letter saying the cheque has been GIVEN VALUE then accept cash only!
Get a free internet phone number and include that number in your advert (rather than your normal landline). Or get one of those free O2 SIM cards often mentioned on this website. Once the car is sold, ditch the internet phone number or throw away the SIM card.
If you get e-mails check the originating IP address of the e-mail. You can do this in Microsoft Outlook (VIEW/OPTIONS). Then use 'WHOIS' to find the location of the IP address - though this is not always an accurate guide. Type the IP address into Google and see if it is a know IP address of a scammer.
Note down the registration of the car he arrives in (and get his photo if possible). If he just wants to do everything by e-mail and by post - forget him- he is just after you money and not your car. Get his telephone number and find an excuse to ring him! Check (where possible) that the name, address and phone number correspond (use 192.com). You can even check on the Land Registry website to see who owns the property he claims to live at - that costs just £2! However, if he is a leaseholder (not the freeholder) then his name will not appear on the Land Registry.
If he wants to test drive the car ask him to bring insurance documents that prove he is insured to drive another car. But, bear in mind, this is likely to be third party cover only!
When you sell the car, always complete the V5 Registration document with the new owner's details and give hime the green section and return the rest of the V5 to the DVLA the days the cars is sold. Makes sure he signs the relevant part of the V5 document!
These are just a few guidelines to follow. I am sure others will have other ideas!
Well, did I sell my car? Yes I did! A local buyer came today. He paid in £20 pound notes. He is happy and I am happy! He got a bargain and I sold it for more than any dealer would pay. But was it worth all the hassle from scammers? Probably not!
I am now getting phone calls from those 070 personal rate numbers! That is probably one of those Nigerian scammers trying to make money out of me from a phone fraud as well! See: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1809760 -
Fantastic and such enjoyable reading. Well done Paul. :rotfl:
