DLA Refusal cos they are stupid!!

Firstly when i had to keep applying for DLA (got an indefinite award now) I l always included supporting letters in with the original claim - it speed-ed up the process and saved them turning me down
Secondly not all GP's deal with MH issues, my GP has been told to just deal with my physical health but not touch my MH. However every time I see P.Doc GP does get a letter saying how i am doing, so they do know. HTH:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0 -
I have only ever seen my GP once with regards to my sons ADHD and that was the appointment that he refered him to the pedeatricion who has seen him every 6 months since...this was just over 18 months ago.
however everyutime i have visited his ped she has always wriiten a letter to the said GP explaining what went on in that visit and what steps are being taken.
granted its not indepth enough for the GP to know how the ADHD impacts our life but its enough to keep the GP informed.
i have yet to go through the DLA claim process..that will be coming soon but its quite daunting so i'm going to wait for his next appoint with the ped...then go from there i think

But you would have had a GP where you moved from. When you get a new GP all your medical details and files are sent on to them and so if you have been diagnosed with this condition, your new GP will be aware of it. The only way he will tell DLA you have the condition is if its been diagnosed by another doctor or if he diagnoses it himself. As you have the condition I presume it will be in the files sent from your old GP. So don't worry it'll be fine.
Yes I guess it should all be in there probably right back from being diagnosed in Great Ormand street as a kid.
It's not a common condition though at all so I was concerned about them asking him about my care and mobility needs and him not being able to answere that.
I have gotten in touch with him now though (he seems quite nice but I've never met him you just see whoevers free when you're I'll and it's never been him) but we spoke on the phone and he said when the letter comes through he'll call to make me an appointment so I can come in and said we can then do the form together."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
My son was eventually referred to a consultant(after years of problems:mad:) and because of his condition we now have direct contact with the consultant and never need to go through GP.
So think we are similar to Loly 1981. The consultant writes to the GP after every appointment we have with him and we are always sent a copy too.
Posted a claim for DLA yesterday although unsure whether son will get it-I just copied everything from consultant (and dietician) to save them the trouble of writing to anyone:) Also on additonal info stated that we do not see the GP but have direct access to consultant!!

I'm able to fill in the form and use a telephone to make a doctors appt and I'm on higher care. Plenty of people who are physically and mentally disabled can do the same. . Point is she's coherently writing posts here and is able to do that, so there's no great leap to phoning a doctor to make an appointment and letting him know about the DLA claim and ask him to write a letter about her condition. At the height of my anxiety around 3 years ago I was in casualty at least three times a week because the disorder can mimic a heart attack. Chest pain, pains in left arm etc. I managed to phone an ambulance each time and tell them exactly how I was feeling. She can tell the GP the problems she has and at least get them into her files. Anxiety disorders are very hard to treat and I have every sympathy for her, but I just think she's making it difficult for herself. Also bear in mind that, from what I've read, she not only doesn't want the GP to be in contact with them but also doesn't want her psychiatrist to do so either. That's what I find odd. Not liking what the doctor has to say is one thing, but disagreeing with the psychiatrist as well is another.
As I said before though, you don't always need evidence, so she could just go to tribunal and tell them face to face what her life is like. That is worth more than any letter. Problem is that if she has put a contact such as gp or psychiatrist on the form they might very well decide to contact them. If she has been officially diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and depression, either a gp or a psychiatrist would have had to do that. So I don't see why they couldn't be contacted. From what i can see from the original post she appears certain that they will not back up her claim. I certainly can agree that we know ourselves and how we are coping better than anyone else including doctors, but the simple facts of life are that for DLA you need evidence. If you want the financial help from them and are in desperate need of it then you would jump through the hoops they put up in order to get it. DLA get it wrong a lot and we've seen plenty of evidence of that from various posts on the forum, but I guess some of the lack of sympathy is directed at the posters refusal to help herself. I see a psychiatrist once a month and always around a week later get a copy of a letter he's sent to my gp setting out what happened in the meeting and what he thinks etc. This happens without fail because they are legally obligated to do so I think. (Someone might know for sure).
Laughed when I read the poster who said about not sleeping at night. I have the exact same problem. Just cannot sleep at all. Its 3.3am and I'm sat here going through the competitions thread. lol Hope I win that chocolate in the shape of a squirrel!:)
Waffling rambling type essay post over.

Appeal. But as has been pointed out, it is up to you to provide the decision maker with the necessary information.
That said, if they were aware of your social worker, then you could point out that they had 'failed to make reasonable enquiries'."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Update.
DLA have received letter/report from social worker. Called on friday and they confirmed receipt. They will be re-valuing my claim on Tuesday now that they have that information. SW also sent me copy of her report and has agreed to come to appeal with me if necessary.0 -
You'll do much better at an appeal anyway. Nothing to be worried about there. If it goes to tribunal you get a chance to tell them face to face how your daily life is and that gives them a much better idea than pieces of paper. It'll all be backdated in the end so you won't lose out if you win.0

I'm really pleased to hear this - let us know how you get on and if you do need to appeal - it should go better with your SW there to support you.
Good luck :T.Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I've made two claims for DLA and both passed. Not once have they ever spoke to my G.P or shrink. They've just went on the information I provided on the booklet (dla application form)0
