Santander to charge for money removal???

Correct me if I am wrong, if my memory serves my correctly when the banks won the court case over their charges I thought that one of the reasons why the judge ruled in their favour was so as not to threaten free banking.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone that would tolerate a fee for ATM usage.
That was one of the reasons, yes, IIRC.
But banks are still under (arguably ineffectual) pressure to reduce those charges and a possible way of doing so is to even out the charges. That is reduce (further) the charges for unauthorised overdrafts, but introduce them for some or all other services. It would get them off the legal hook if not the customer displeasure one.
And I suspect hundreds of thousands if not millions of people are already tolerating fees for ATM usage in garages, pubs, convenience stores, etc.0
