Orange, retention and the K800

I've been with Orange for 3 years, have had the same handset over that time and pay £30 per month for 200 mins and 500 texts. Im happy with the package and with Orange. Thought it was about time to get a new phone - i like the look of the K800.

I call Orange say that Im thinking about disconnecting and have seen this phone advertised with O2 for free.

Im then told that as I dont spend enough with them the best they can do is offer me the phone as an upgrade for £89. I say but i can get it free with O2. Im told sorry you dont spend enough. That ws it - no bargaining - nothing.

They are sending the PAC code and Ill be going to O2.

I'm amazed how little Orange want to keep their customers

I am with Orange too and wanted to upgrade. They would give me the phone I want if I change my monthly plan to £35 ( from 30 ) and they still want £15 for the handset which is free via Carphonewarehouse on an Orange contract that cost £30 a month!

If you know you will have reception with other companies than change - get the best deal you can!

I just bought it on a renewal for £29.99. I was hoping to get it free, but as I'm actually dropping my talk plans (one to £20/month, one to £25, both from £35) I wasn't too annoyed.

I'm in a similar situation - Orange just weren't interested. Vote with your feet and take your business elsewhere. That's the only way companies will get the message that keeping existing customers should be a priority as well as attracting new customers.

Orange are well known for offering rubbish retention offers to all but the higher tier spenders. As others have said, vote with your feet. Their tariffs are not competitive and they often sneak in charge increases - 0800, itemised billing, delivery report charging, etc.
