  • I think it must be because windows did load when the battery was changed.

I have a computer at work(it is a desktop but the battery plays the same role) which has had a dead cr2032for quite some time but it does not stop it from loading Windows. We have not bothered changing it because the computer is only used to work some machinery and losing the date and time does not matter.
I suspect with the ops laptop there maybe something in the bios which checks the battery and halts if it is found to be low. This won't explain why a new battery ran down so quickly though. I guess there must be some problem increasing the current draw on it. It will be very difficult finding out what though.

Hi, I have a packard bell desktop about 4 yrs old. About 5 months ago I had to take it to a computer repairman because windows would load. There was just a black screen with writing came up and at the bottom it said battery was low. Anyway, he replaced the battery and cleaned out the machine. The thing is, this new battery only lasted about 5 months before the same thing happened again. This time I bought replacement batterys and my partner changed it. All was up and running however this battery has only lasted 2 weeks! Anyone know wharts going on? Thanks

I too am a bit confused as to lappie / desktop but it's shorting out or the cell holder is [ same thing ] full of gunge

Cotton buds & Isopropyl alcohol, or switch cleaner, or ladies nail varnish remover will clean the cell holder.

After a careful look ' bending ' the securing clips or it may be a ring type will make sure the battery is making good contact.

If that doesn't work you're going to have to put a meter on it to find the earth leak.

    Hope this helps
